Nasuh Mitap, one of the leaders of the Devrimci Yol movement, will be commemorated by his friends and comrades on Sunday 8 November, the 12th anniversary of his death, in his hometown of Kırıklareli. A revolutionary of the 1968 generation, Nasuh Mitap continued his political struggle within the ranks of the THKPC. Following the 12 March military-fascist coup, he spent some time in prison.
After his release, he continued to play a leading role in the revolutionary struggle, becoming one of the organising leaders of the DEV-GENÇ and Devrimci Yol political movements. Following the 12 September 1980 military coup, he was arrested and subjected to severe torture. Despite all their efforts, the torturers at the Police Headquarters and Mamak Military Prison were unable to break his spirit.
Nasuh Mitap maintained his resolute revolutionary stance even before the military courts of the 12 September Military Fascist Coup. His definition of revolution as ‘man serving humanity’ was embraced by his comrades as a philosophy of life. The words, “I regard the struggle for a future free from exploitation and oppression, and filled with freedom, abundance and happiness for my people and all humanity, as the highest ideal and cause that humanity can attain,” have been etched into memory as the statement that best defines his understanding of socialism.
Nasuh Mitap, who passed away 12 years ago on 3 November 2014 whilst receiving treatment in hospital, will be commemorated on the anniversary of his passing with a ceremony organised by his comrades. A commemoration gathering is to be held at his grave in the Kırklareli City Cemetery on Sunday, 8 November at 1.00 pm; as in previous years, a large turnout from all corners of the country is expected.
