Can Atalay, the elected Member of Parliament for Hatay who is currently detained in prison, announced that he had begun a 24-hour hunger strike on 1 October, the day the Turkish Grand National Assembly’s new parliamentary year began. Atalay stated that his action was undertaken to demand Hatay’s right to representation, the implementation of Constitutional Court rulings, and the removal of obstacles preventing him from carrying out his duties as a Member of Parliament.
