The regime’s foundation: the rule of discontent

Whilst the regime consolidates its political power through mechanisms ranging from the judiciary to the bureaucracy, it is rendering society powerless by instilling a sense that ‘nothing will change anyway’. Whilst the opposition has not been effective enough in dispelling this sentiment, the fact that the debate centres solely on the ‘ballot box’ is delaying the necessary actions.
